Mukiza Gorilla Group
Mukiza Gorilla Group also known as Kyaguliro B found in Ruhija sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The group led by the dominant silverback Mukiza. Meanwhile, Mukiza Gorilla group formed in May 2016 after splitting from the main Kyaguliro “Kyaguliro A.” With continuous additions in the near future. This group composed of 13 individuals including; 1 Silverback, 6 adult females, 2 sub-adults, 1 juvenile and 3 infants.
Mukiza group known for staying deeper in the forest and in rare circumstances. It gets close to the forest’s peripherals. Mukiza silverback one of the silverbacks in the Kyaguliro gorilla group found in Ruhija sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. It is assumed that the fights started way back in December 2015. When the two silverbacks fought and split for a short time and re-united shortly.
Later in January 2016 following another fight, Mukiza managed to take 10 members away from the main group. To form a new Mukiza gorilla family led by him and Kyaguliro gorilla family led by Rukara. Mukiza was able to create his own family that is why it is sometimes referred to as Kyaguriro B.
The creation of Mukiza family came about when Mukiza, a young silverback lost control of a large gorilla group. Hence walking away with a few manageable members to start a new controllable family. The Mukiza family is located inside the forest therefore, for those visitors who would love to explore the forest, Mukiza group is the perfect group to trek.
The Mukiza Gorilla Group is an exceptional gorilla group usually spotted spending most of its time within the park and rarely sighted outside the park boundaries.
Mukiza gorilla group welcomed its new born baby gorilla in October 2020 thanks to Mwijukye, the mother gorilla. This brought the group composition to 15 members and presently, holidaymakers can be part of mountain gorilla trekking experience in Mukiza gorilla family. Some of the members include adult females like; Twijukye, Mugenyi, Bwebisha, Korugyezi and Mugwere, sub-adult males like; Kanywanyi, juveniles like Tonvi and knowledge not forgetting the babies of the family like Gorodi and Nyakabara.
